CX Air Dynamics has created CX Easyrider. The aim of these first Airbag trousers for motorcyclists is to protect the lower limbs, « the forgotten part of motorbike Airbag protection », explains Xavier Bouquillard de Milleret, Director of the company based in Saint-Clar-de-Rivière (Haute-Garonne).
Three quarters of users of motorised two-wheelers do not wear specially designed trousers, while almost 70% of injuries are to the lower limbs.
The innovation, protected by a French patent in 2018, then a European and finally an international patent in 2021, and by State certification, combines two types of technologies: anti-G trousers worn by fighter pilots, and an individual Airbag, to protect the most vulnerable areas of the legs, by triggering instantly in the event of an impact.
In order to expand rapidly internationally, CX Air Dynamics is aiming to raise funds of €2 million: €1 million from investors and €1 million from Bpifrance. The fundraising will also enable the launch of a development programme for the airbag’s electronic trigger, using sensors. The airbag is currently triggered mechanically, which is the preferred mode of operation for law enforcement agencies.
The outlook for the business is bright. The Ministry of the Interior and insurers are working on it being compulsory to wear motorbike airbags within three years. Motorcyclists in the national Gendarmerie and the national police are already interested in the product for their teams. CX Easyrider is also looking at other commercial outlets besides motorcycling, including horse riding, skiing, skydiving and downhill mountain biking. The model is priced at 599 euros.
It is 100% manufactured in France. Over €450 k has already been invested in R&D. It has also been awarded several development grants: a loan from the Réseau Entreprendre Occitanie (€30 k, winner in 2020), Airbus Développement (€15 k, Innovation winner 2021), and the Occitanie Region Export Contract (€70 k).
Today, AD’OCC’s support is appreciated by the company.
« High quality hands-on support helps us to prepare this fundraising in the best possible way », says Xavier Bouquillard de Milleret.
